Hey, South Korea! You have my heart! 💛
They say the first step into the unknown is the most memorable, and for me, it led to the vibrant landscapes of Seoul and Busan. This blog captures the essence of my debut international journey.
Join me as I tell the stories of my trip that not only revealed the wonders of a new country but the depths of my soul.
We are going to start with the Seoul city. Here I go!
I needed Seoul for my soul
Incheon Airport: A Gateway to Friendship
Our adventure started with an unexpected connection at Incheon Airport, where fate introduced us to a delightful townie who shared a special bond with Pune City. Her warmth and generosity gifted us a cherished connection and a newfound bond. With her guidance, we got our very first T-money card. We navigated the complexities of the Airport and the subway station.
Seoul Station & Hongik University Station: Subway Serenades
As we hopped on the subway from Seoul Station to Hongik University Station, we were surrounded by the energy of the bustling city. The subway rides were difficult, but they were also joyous. We were dancing through the city’s intricate web, each station revealing a different layer of the vibrant character of the city. Each subway ride was a shared experience. It was a harmonious mix of laughter, enthusiasm, and sometimes a bit of a navigational puzzle. We built a special bond with these subways and the subway stations. We used to feel nostalgic and a bit emotional after hearing the subway music. I have everything captured in my core memory. Hongik University Station has a special place in my heart. ❤
Hongdae Street & Myeongdong Market: A Symphony of Colors and Flavors
Hongdae Street is one of the most vibrant streets in the center of Seoul. It’s filled with a vibrant energy that’s irresistible to locals and visitors alike. Known for its eclectic mix of art, music, and youthful energy, this busy street is a living testimony to South Korea’s contemporary cultural scene.
From independent boutiques to quirky cafes and street performers, there is something for everyone on Hongdae Street. You’ll feel like you’re stepping into a world of creativity that knows no boundaries.
Just a few minutes walk from Hongdae Street, you’ll find the heart of the market district, Myeong-dong Market. This market district is a paradise for foodies and shoppers alike. It seamlessly blends modernity with traditional
Whether you’re looking for the latest fashion boutiques, vintage stores, concept stores, or local designer boutiques, there’s something for everyone in Hongdae. Whether you’re a fashion aficionado or you’re just looking for something unique, you’ll find it in one of the district’s many vintage shops, concept stores, and designer boutiques.
Myeongdong is also known as the beauty capital of Seoul. The streets are lined with cosmetic shops, both foreign and Korean, that sell skincare products and makeup. The beauty district is a heaven for beauty lovers. Each shop has its own unique charm and product selection. In addition to cosmetics, the district is also a place where you can shop for fashion, accessories, and souvenirs. There are international brands as well as local boutiques that cater to all tastes and budgets.
As the sun goes down in the evening, Hongdae Street and Myeongdong Market become the nightlife capital of South Korea. From live music venues to underground clubs and rooftop bars, Hongdae is the place to be if you’re a music lover or a night owl. The district’s youthful energy comes alive at night, making it one of the best places to visit if you want to experience the pulse of Seoul’s nightlife.
Gyeongbokgung Palace: Tradition in Every Step
Located in the middle of the heart of the Korean capital city of Seoul. Built in 1395 during the Joseon Dynasty, the Gyeongbokgung Palace is a symbol of Korea’s rich past and royal heritage. It was the royal family’s main residence and the seat of the Korean government for centuries. Nowadays, it’s more than just a tourist attraction, it’s a living museum that transports you back in time.
One of the palace’s most famous events is the Changing of the Guard, which is a colorful and well-choreographed event held at the main gate of the palace, Gwanghwaamun. Visitors can see guards adorned in vibrant costumes and perform ceremonial duties. It’s a glimpse into the intricate rituals of Korea’s royal guards.
For many visitors, wearing a Hanbok — a traditional Korean garment — becomes an experience of a lifetime. On the palace grounds, there are many Hanbok rental options, allowing visitors to experience the elegance of Korea’s royal past. Wearing the layers of a Hanbok adds not only authenticity to your visit but also strengthens your connection with the historical atmosphere.
I, too, embraced this tradition and wore a Hanbok that day. The combination of the intricate beauty of the Hanbok and the sense of history inside the palace walls created a magical combination of the past and the present. As I walked through the palace gardens and posed for photos of the historical buildings, my Hanbok was more than just a dress; it was the vessel through which I shared the legacy of Korea’s royal past.

What makes Lotte World unique is its smooth transition from indoor to outdoor. The outdoor area, known as “Magic Island,” offers panoramic views of the Seokchon lake and downtown. The difference between the indoor and outdoor areas creates a dynamic and multi-faceted theme park experience.
Our trip to Lotte World was not just a quick detour; it was a day-long expedition into the world of imagination and thrill. From sunup to sundown, we explored every corner, jumped on every rollercoaster, and enjoyed the company of thrill-seeking friends. Lotte World was more than just a theme park; it was a journey, a kaleidoscope of experiences that left us with unforgettable memories of our South Korean adventure.
Gangnam & Gangnam Signature Dance Step Statue: Modernity with a Touch of Romance
Playing “Oppa Gangnam style” style in my mind while writing this….. :P
Gangnam, unfolded its glamorous side as we explored the district. Gangnam’s reputation as a fashion hub is evident in its luxury boutiques, designer stores, and trendsetting fashion houses. Gangnam seamlessly blends tradition and modernity, creating a cultural mosaic that captivates visitors.
At the core of Gangnam’s modern appeal is the Gangnam Signature Dance Step Statue, an iconic reminder of the phenomenon that captivated the world: “Gangnam style”. Built-in the area that was the inspiration for Psy’s worldwide hit, the statue embodies the spirit of the dance that defied boundaries and became a sign of joy and harmony. As we stood before the statue, we couldn’t resist joining the countless visitors striking the famous “horse-riding” pose, immortalized by the song’s catchy dance routine. The atmosphere was one of infectious celebration, with people from diverse backgrounds coming together to share in the joy of a dance that knows no language barriers. The Gangnam Signature Dance Step Statue served as a reminder that even in the bustling urban landscape, the spirit of dance and expression thrives.
Gangnam welcomed us with open arms leaving us with memories of a day and night filled with the effervescent spirit of South Korea’s dynamic and modern city life.

SpaLand, Centum City:
Located in the heart of Centum City, Busan, SpaLand is the perfect place to unwind after a day full of exploration and adventure. Our three-and-a-half-hour break from the hustle and bustle of Centum City was just what the doctor ordered. From the soothing warmth of the sauna to the refreshing foot baths and the exploring steam rooms, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The yellow room was bathed in a gentle glow and the hot bath was a sanctuary of calmness. Delights of Haundae Street & Beach: It was like our Home
Haundae is not just a place, it is a chapter where life meets peace. Our Airbnb’s location in this lively neighborhood gave us an instant connection. Every trip was like a walk in the park. The vibrant Haundae Street with its cafes, convenience stores, and restaurants felt like home. The subway station nearby and the variety of cuisines (including Indian food) made it even more convenient and familiar.
Haundae Beach reveals its charming charm as the day fades into night. The soft sand beneath our feet became the stage for late-night talks, songs, and snacks. The beach became our home away from home, where the soothing sound of the waves mingled with laughter and companionship.
With its vibrant street and peaceful beach, Haundae will forever remain in our memories as the place where the life of the city meets the serenity of the ocean.
The Korean Culture Centre, Busan
Korean Culture Centre began as a huge museum, where we were able to learn about the rich history of Korea. It was like stepping into a time machine, as we were immersed in the history of different Dynasties. The informative exhibits gave us a full picture of the history of North and South Korea.
But what makes this cultural experience special is the personal touch of the lady who guided us. Her love for sharing the history of her country was evident as she dressed us in the royal regalia of her country, complete with elaborate hairstyles.
Wearing a Hanbok wasn’t just an opportunity to don traditional clothes, it was an immersion into cultural significance. As we walked through the halls of the cultural haven, dressed in the costume of the country’s royalty, we were not only learning about the history of Korea, but we were also deeply connected to the past.
Korean Culture Center, with its combination of information exhibits and interactive activities, was a living proof of the country’s rich history and heritage.
Unforgettable Connection
In the midst of all of Busan’s beauty, it was an unexpected connection with a lovely stranger that truly captured the essence of the city. When we met this lovely lady on the subway, she turned our visit into a journey of discovery. Park, a loving and adorable soul, not only became our impromptu guide through the vibrant city but also shared the generosity of her heart. Roaming with us, she unveiled the treasures of Busan, adding a layer of genuine hospitality to our exploration.
Her thoughtful gesture of packing rice cakes and tangerines reflected a generosity that transcended language barriers. As our time in Busan drew to a close, Park, went above and beyond, accompanying us to the station and capturing the essence of our shared moments through the lens of her excitement. In just two days, what started as a chance encounter blossomed into a connection for life. She created an unforgettable memory in our hearts, reminding us of the power of human connection amid unfamiliar surroundings.
Culinary Tales: One Bite at a Time
From Tangulu’s tangy sweetness to bungeoppang’s sweet pastry perfection and Bibimbap’s balanced combination of ingredients, every dish was like a brush stroke on our South Korean culinary journey.
Bibimbap: Our culinary journey began with the iconic Bibimbap — a colorful bowl of mixed rice, and vegetables, and often accompanied by savory gochujang (red chili paste). The combination of textures and flavors showcased the artistry of Korean cuisine, leaving a lasting impression on our taste buds.
Tangulu: a delectable snack featuring skewered fruits coated in a crispy sugar shell. From strawberries to grapes, each bite was a burst of sweetness that perfectly complemented the savory snacks
Kimchi: No exploration of Korean cuisine is complete without a taste of Kimchi. The fermented side dish is typically made with napa cabbage and Korean radishes.
Tteokbokki: a popular street food made with chewy rice cakes drenched in a sweet and spicy gochujang sauce. The blend of textures and the kick of spice left us craving more, prompting multiple returns to our favorite street vendors.
Bungeoppang: A delightful street snack that caught our attention was Bungeoppang — a fish-shaped pastry filled with sweet red bean paste. The golden-brown exterior and the warm, gooey center created a harmonious blend of textures and flavors.
Kimbap: Kimbap — a Korean version of sushi rolls filled with various ingredients like vegetables. Triangle Kimbap, with its neatly wrapped seaweed and rice, is a convenient on-the-go snack, perfect for a quick bite between destinations.
In South Korea, every bite is like a piece of art — a tapestry of tradition, creativity, and a love of good food. Not only did our culinary adventures in Seoul satisfy our appetites, but they also opened our eyes to South Korean culture where the love of food is more than just food, it is the celebration of life. A culinary journey that will leave a lasting impression on your taste buds and your soul.
The Convenience Stores: Everyday Adventures
Our daily trips to GS 25 and CU, as well as 7-Eleven, turned mundane tasks into joyous adventures. From discovering one-of-a-kind snacks to browsing the convenience store aisles, these stores weren’t just places to pick up what you needed; they were snapshots of everyday South Korean life.
In South Korea, the beverage section in convenience stores is a place of innovation. From milk and yogurt flavors to carbonated drinks, there is something for everyone. The variety is vast and refreshing, from banana milk to the traditional sweet rice drink Sikhye. There are also ready-to-drink coffee options and the popular Korean soju.
A Quartet’s Tale: An Unforgettable Chapter with Anushka, Ashwini, and Siddhi
Embarking on a beautiful journey through the heart of South Korea, I was accompanied by three extraordinary and extremely beautiful companions — Anushka, Ashwini, and Siddhi. ❤
Together, we formed a rhythmic quartet that transformed each passing moment into a symphony of shared laughter, exploration, and enduring friendship.
Anushka: Despite being the youngest among us, Anushka, our navigator extraordinaire, emerged as the embodiment of warmth and navigational finesse. With a heart as warm as Seoul’s Sun, Anushka’s kindness illuminated every corner of our adventure. Her gentle spirit created a soothing atmosphere. Anushka became our compass, not only in directions but also in the heartwarming moments that marked our stay in South Korea.
Ashwini: Her passion for savoring every moment made each meal an experience in itself. Her linguistic finesse and culinary curiosity opened doors to hidden gems of South Korea. As roommates, laughter became the soundtrack of our shared moments, echoing through our cozy accommodations. Her immense love for K-pop, K-dramas, and all things South Korea infused our exploration with boundless enthusiasm.
Siddhi: The thrill-seeking dynamo, injected infectious enthusiasm into every attraction, turning ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. Her leadership qualities guided us through bustling streets. With an energy that was both magnetic and inspiring, Siddhi became not just a travel companion but a leader who orchestrated the rhythm of our exploration
As the days went by, we realized that our time in South Korea wasn’t just a getaway, it was the start of lifelong friendships. The shared laughter, the unspoken understanding during subway journeys, and the understanding that went beyond language and culture were the building blocks on which our friendship was built.
The late-night talks in cozy Airbnbs, the spontaneous laughing sessions, and the quiet moments of reflection at the top of Namsan Seoul Tower — all became threads in the fabric of a shared journey.
Anushka, Ashwini, Siddhi, and I — four individuals who started as travel companions — now share a connection that surpasses the boundaries of time and distance.
I love you, Girls! ❤
Here our trip to South Korea comes to an end! Beyond the words on these pages lies a realm of vibrant streets, historic palaces, and the beating heart of a nation.
With a heart heavy with memories and a suitcase loaded with souvenirs, it’s not a goodbye but a “see you later,” in South Korea. Until we meet again, 감사합니다 (Thank you), for the memories that will linger like the fragrance of spring blossoms.
South Korea, you have left an indelible mark on this wanderer’s heart. ❤
